Two sites - one content: duplicate or update ❓

You've asked yourself this question if you're creating a new site that you need to push all of your existing content to.

How to do it quickly, without fuss, and what is the best option - we understand.

We have two options:

• Copy content to the new site, set up 301 redirect on the old one;
• Publish updated versions of the articles on the new domain.

Which to choose?

The main goal: to preserve positions and traffic as much as possible, because there will be losses.

To do this, we follow an algorithm:

1. Making page 301 redirect

Each old page should lead to its own copy on the new site. This will signal to search engines that the page has moved.

2. Moving the articles as is

You can update the headlines and dates, but without major changes - this way we can maintain relevance.

3. Update content AFTER indexing

It is important that we make the update after the weight transfer. And then we revise the content, add new blocks, etc.

Why should you not publish completely rewritten texts at once?

Because a search engine might see it as a new page with no connection to the past. Then we could lose weight.

Although I've worked with SEOs who update content immediately upon migration and everything was ok. But I recommend you to be reinsured.
