In Europe, regulators from seven countries have come together to create a unified data sharing mechanism to combat the illegal iGaming segment
Regulators in Germany, Austria, France, the UK, Italy, Portugal and Spain on November 12 agreed to create a unified data sharing mechanism to combat illegal operators at a meeting at the headquarters of Spanish regulator DGOJ in Madrid. Authorities have noted an increase in illegal advertising on social networks, video platforms and affiliate networks through which unlicensed operators circumvent national laws.
The agreement includes three areas: exchange of information on illegal operators between regulators, joint requirements for online platforms to block advertisements of illegal operators and exchange of experience in identifying and punishing violators.
In a joint statement, the regulators called illegal gambling a threat to consumer protection and legal operators.
