AI eats up traffic - what to do about it?
It appeared new statistics for the Wiki, and the numbers are disappointing:
- 90 millions lost visits;
- 50% - search queries show AI reviews;
- 35% - that's how many Google hits are down;
- 5% - general decline in attendance.
At the same time, there are 162% more bots, and ChatGPT has 162% more referrals. 3,5 times.
The problem is that AI gives ready-made answers in search results, and people don't have to navigate to websites.
Bottom line: the value of evergreen content is going down. But it's something you can work with.
- Invest in additional content
Add analytics, statistics, personal opinions and case studies to your materials to dilute the general informative text.
- Reduce the proportion of evergreen materials
Change the ratio from the usual 80/20 to 50/50 or 70/30, where the big number is evergreen articles.
- Leave evergreen content only where it's needed
Mostly for navigation, basic understanding of a topic, or building topic authority.
The idea is not to remove it completely, but to combine it together with content more valuable to the users and AI.
