AI schizophrenia. Everybody's in the same ballpark.
Saw a coworker's post yesterday about unreasonable hatred people to the long dash. Just recently an entertaining incident happened - seems worth writing about.
A news site once saw that it's now fashionable to dump your boyfriends if they use a dash «-». The reason is because that's what ChatGPT says. A long dash means the guy is communicating with a neural network.
It was funny when we saw the news, but we forgot about it after a second. And just a couple of days ago we were horrified: in public, in front of everyone, a media person called a person a «dumbass» for using a long dash. The reason is the same: if you use «-», it means that you are not the one who writes it, but ChatGPT generates it for you.
What was my surprise when other people started to defend this media person, because, according to them, nobody uses the long dash, everyone on the Internet uses the hyphen «-» instead. As they say: «L is logic».
At that moment, this is what became clear to me.
That people have started some kind of mania to call people stupid and accuse them of using ChatGPT - say, you are a fool, you can't do anything without neural network, and I am smarter than you!
It's the perfect way to rise to the top: I'm the smart one and he's the fool. The way is simple, the way is fast.
It reminds me of people who know the rules of punctuation perfectly and mock those who don't: they skip commas in some places, put a colon instead of a dash, etc. Such warriors are called «grammar-nazis» - maybe you've heard the term.
For context: the term includes the war not only for perfect punctuation, but also for perfect spelling - in general, for perfectly correct language on the internet.
I also know when you need a colon and when you need a dash, so as a knowledgeable person I like to ask: how exactly does perfect knowledge of punctuation help you earn more money, get a good job in life, self-actualize? And it doesn't help in any way - not all lovers of correct punctuation are ready to answer so honestly.
But still such people consider it their duty to rise at the expense of others, that someone somewhere missed a comma or didn't put a colon. With such people, everything is simple: stupid, foolish, ignorant. They put up a label and sit contentedly.
And do you know why they do that? 🙂 Because they realize that apart from such attacks, there is no way they can feel smart anymore! Because - again, I'm being honest - the world lives without punctuation knowledge. People come home from work and think about what to make for dinner. You get the idea: the real world is concerned with completely different issues.
It's exactly the same with rampant AI schizophrenia. Blamed the man on neuronics, without figuring it out, - and that's it, you're automatically smarter than this fool, because you don't use AI, you formulate your own thoughts! Although behind this wall of conceit there is a clear dissatisfaction with yourself. For what reason - let such people tell themselves.
Absolutely understand the outrage when a person actually passes off neural network endeavors as their own. I personally immediately feel like I've been duped. In such cases, resentment is absolutely justified. However, not everything that is written on the Internet is generated by AI. It's just that some people have completely forgotten about it for some reason. Because you have to feel smart somewhere... at least against someone else's background.
That's where the habit of judging everyone comes in. First for punctuation, now for the long dash. There is always something to call a person «stupid» for - just let them do it. On the one hand there is progress and technology, and on the other hand there are people who don't know what they are doing.
