How do algorithms select content?
This time. shared his experience Harry Clarkson-Bennett for Google Discover.
✅Trust
The site has to be reliable:
- no spam;
- gives a high level of expertise;
- there's copyrighted material.
E-E-A-T is still important - include author names, contacts, add an «About Us» section and social media links.
✅Involvement
Platforms look at user behavior:
- prolonged reading and repeat visits = plus;
- instant departure = minus.
The better the retention rate, the higher the site boost.
✅Freshness
When content is first released, the platform gives it a temporary boost. At that point, the algorithm evaluates:
- CTR;
- how long it takes to read the material;
- whether they're reposting, posting reactions/comments.
❗️Поэтому it is important to keep the publication going as much as possible in the first few hours.
✅Interest
Keywords haven't been a priority for a long time, meaning and context are at the top.
Algorithms read them, so it's important that the content responds to the user's actual query.
Experience has shown that these rules are relevant to other venues as well - you've definitely seen this wording before.
So save and memorize
