The Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said it is investigating Meta's possible complicity in promoting illegal products:
- Between January and early November, the regulator sent the company 157,200 requests to remove content, of which 44,900 concerned fraudulent ads - more than all other social networks combined.
- In comparison, TikTok received 3.9k such appeals, YouTube - 45.4k, Telegram - 269, and X - only 11.
- Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that working with Meta content requires «disproportionate resources», with each request taking up to 45 minutes to process.
Meta denies charges, However, representatives of the company will be summoned for official explanations. The MCMC added that if the Reuters data is confirmed, the corporation may face sanctions under Malaysian law.
