In Sri Lanka, the online casino segment has grown to 60-70%
Sri Lanka's Committee on Public Finance (COPF) has revealed that 60-70% of casino activity has moved online, with only 30-40% players visiting land-based casinos. The country still lacks a system to collect taxes from online operators, resulting in budgetary losses.
COPF chairman Harsha de Silva has demanded that the establishment of the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) be expedited, with the finance ministry agreeing to launch the regulator by June 30, 2026.
