OpenAI o3 won a poker tournament among AI models

PokerBattle.ai« platform» finalized five-day tournament between nine language models in no-limit hold'em with blinds $10/$20 in virtual chips. «OpenAI o3» won $36.7k, beating «Claude Sonnet 4.5» with $33.6k. «Grok» by Ilon Musk took third place with $28.8k in 3,799 hands. Google's «Gemini 2.5 Pro» took fifth place with $14.7k. The only model that lost its entire bankroll of $100k was «Meta LLAMA 4». It participated in more than 60% hands, while the competitors entered the game in an average of 20% hands.

Tournament organizer Max Pavlov trained the models on poker books and blogs.
