Generation Alpha - players with an attention span of 8 seconds
I recently watched a video about the generation of people born since 2010. They are predicted to be the hardest generation to reach. By 2025 their number will exceed two billion. For iGaming they are the future customers, but their behavior is not like the models we are used to.
Alpha's key features are:
Attention retention holds for 8 seconds. Long onboarding, complex terms and multi-step bonus mechanics will perform worse than they do now. Need to engage quickly and drive to CTAs.
They don't know how to wait. Every action should bring results immediately. Slow payouts or bonuses with long wagering will be a problem.
Content overload. Millions of short videos from childhood have accustomed them to constant stimulation of the nervous system. Creating a surprise effect or an emotion that will be remembered becomes a super challenge.
TikTok and YouTube algorithms shape thinking. These services program people for short attention cycles and quick switching. To retain interest, products need to work on the same principles.
A penchant for micropayments. The economics of subscriptions and in-game purchases shapes the perception of money as something infinitely divisible. For them, 2$ for a skin is almost never perceived as spending.
What to do and how to be:
Simplifying interfaces. The fewer clicks to play or payout, the higher the retention.
Instant bonuses with no complicated terms and conditions.
Content in short formats. Dynamic visuals and mechanics that engage immediately.
A constant stream of impressions. You can't expect long-lasting loyalty if the product is not updated and surprising.
Personalization with AI. Without personalization, it will be impossible to hold attention.
