Rubric: an interesting SEO in Linkedin said
Retelling:
My guess is that Google's next major algorithm update will be a downgrade (based on 15+ years of experience watching updates):
- An influx of thin, «robotic» pages designed to influence LLMs
- one-size-fits-all articles-lists like “top 10 of something,” especially if it's self-promotional
- An overabundance of keywords and entities - something that has become massively overused again because of the GEO
- An overabundance of AI content or AI-generated content with low engagement
- and the same thing multiplied by hundreds of URLs.
- artificial “chunking” of text (chunking) to the detriment of readability and UX
- obvious spam tactics for GEO, like prompt injection.
And a reminder: the Google Core updates now affect visibility in AI search as well, not just regular search results.
Assuming she's right, here are my thoughts as a content marketer:
- Interesting about chunking. In recent years, we've seen a trend toward «chunking» text. Now, it turns out, the topic has died out.
- A bunch of keys-- oh, God, yes. But not just everybody realized that.
- List articles - everyone's been talking about this lately too, but still everyone is ordering them.
- In general - we need to move away from the practice of «keys+structure+facts = text». We need to turn abruptly towards content marketing, to find practices of engagement and retention on the page. Use text content as a foundation, but go beyond it. And I have a few theories on this.
What do you guys think? How accurate are the predictions?
