In Turkey, 371 out of 571 soccer referees have accounts on betting sites
Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced the results of a five-year investigation which revealed that more than half of the country's active referees were registered on betting operator websites, 152 of whom had an active account. Among those caught are seven Super League referees and 15 assistant referees from the top two divisions. One of the referees made 18,227 bets, while 42 referees bet on more than 1,000 matches each.
The TFF president said that the cases will be referred to a disciplinary commission. Violators face disqualification from one year (TFF) to three years (FIFA) and a fine of up to $94.2 thousand.
The names of the arbitrators have not been publicly disclosed. The prosecutor's office opened a criminal investigation in April this year. FIFA and UEFA have already been notified of the results.
