PLAYTECH [CHAPTERS 01 - 06]
PLAYTECH [CHAPTERS 07 - 12]
A tough road to success
The continuing story of how Israeli entrepreneur Teddy Sagi created a multi-billion dollar iGaming empire from scratch
CHAPTER 7: UNIPLAY AND SIX DIGITS
Before the William Hill deal, Playtech contributed these companies as a share in the WHO joint venture. But the ultimate beneficiary of the companies was Teddy Sagi himself and Playtech bought them from him before the deal. This led the media to claim that Teddy Sagi sold his assets to his own company, paid for by the shareholders.
CHAPTER 8: PT TURNKEY SERVICES (PTTS)
Playtech and PT Turnkey Services (PTTS): how the deal was structured and why there was controversy surrounding it. Spoiler: the press again accused Teddy Sagi of Playtech «buying» the assets he owned. Under the name PTTS was the largest PP EuroPartners, through which about 70k affiliates were pouring traffic.
CHAPTER 9: ADOLESCENCE
Our narrative does not follow a strictly chronological order. In this chapter we will go back to the very beginning and tell you about Teddy Saga's youth.
Now his personal fortune ranges from 6.5 to 7.1 billion dollars, but the beginning of the business journey was not easy.
CHAPTER 10: VIDEOBET
In 2005 Playtech acquired a small Estonian company OU Video B. From our point of view, this is probably the most important M&A deal in the company's history. Together with the company Playtech got access to such slots as «Gladiator» and «Rocky», which became the most popular in the world at that moment. The second point of success - the development of the acquired structure was used to create FOBT (Fixed Odds Betting Terminal), which soon stood in offline betting shops of all UK betting networks. FOBTs were characterized by huge betting limits and incredible addictiveness. A huge number of British players were introduced to online gaming and got hooked on Playtech games through FOBTs.
CHAPTER 11: PLAYTECH AND POKER
2006 Playtech signed an agreement to acquire the non-US assets of the Tribeca Tables Europe poker network. This allowed Playtech to take control of its subsidiary iPoker network, which has a huge number of poker players, both amateurs and professionals. However, unlike PokerStars of those times, Playtech never had a special piety for poker as a game of intellectuals. For Playtech, poker was just a base from which players were trying to be invited to bookmakers and online casinos as more marginal elements of the iGaming vertical.
CHAPTER 12: ASIA
In 2007 Playtech begins working with Asian operators to enter the unregulated, unpredictable and challenging markets of Southeast Asia and China.
