Online Gambling in the country

From 1 December 2024, new regulations will come into force. The main innovation is the possibility for licensees to operate ‘offshore’, i.e. to serve not only Georgian but also foreign audiences.

What is changing?

  • Dual licences
Each licence can now cover up to two domains. This will allow operators to create separate brands for local and international markets.
  • Expansion of the currency corridor
Previously, bets were only accepted in the national currency, the lari. Now players will be able to bet in euros and US dollars.
  • Differentiated taxes
Operators focusing exclusively on foreign players will get more favourable tax conditions - the rate will be only 5% of gross gaming revenue (GGR). For those targeting local audiences, the rate will remain the same at 15%.
  • Simplification of the procedure for online slots
The quarterly levy is abolished, significantly reducing the financial burden on operators.
  • Softening of requirements
The procedure for obtaining a licence remains largely unchanged, but additional clarifications are introduced.

What does this mean for the industry and players?

The new rules will make the Georgian market more attractive to international companies, which will lead to an influx of investment and job creation.

The number of online casinos is expected to increase, which will lead to more competition and, as a result, more favourable offers.

Players will get more games, bonuses and promotions. Due to this, Georgia may become the new centre of online gambling in the region.
