iGaming in Argentina is regulated at the provincial level, with 15 out of 23 allowing online gambling. According to recent news, in the capital Buenos Aires, which is the main centre of online gambling, members of the local opposition have proposed to raise the tax on online gambling from 6% to 12%.

The proceeds are planned to be spent on launching a programme to fight gambling addiction among teenagers.

The authorities of the capital continue efforts to combat unlicensed operators and have recently blocked about 1835 illegal sites.

In addition, officials have launched an initiative to completely ban online gambling in the Argentine capital. There is currently no clear response on the proposed legislation.

In early December 2024, the province of San Juan in Argentina passed a bill to regulate online gambling to combat illegal internet gambling and fraud. The law legalises lotteries, betting and games whose outcome depends on luck and skill.

At the same time, the country's Chamber of Deputies approved a bill banning online betting advertising on television, radio, streaming services, social networks, as well as outdoor advertising.

In addition, betting operators are planned to limit the sponsorship of sports teams and athletes. The regulatory act has been sent to the Senate, where a decision on its future will be made.

If the law is approved, the shadow market in the country will increase significantly, as offshore operators will have a significant advantage over legal platforms.
